The Amex Brighton & Hove Albion Football Stadium

Brighton football club – Albion in the community have provided sessions here at Apuldram for our adults with learning disabilities. The Course includes leisure studies, health and safety, promotion of healthy exercise and of course football and an assortment of games.

The sessions have taught our service users about what they would expect to find at various leisure facilities including football stadiums, aquariums and swimming pools to name a few. Furthermore, the course encourages the service users to think about aspects such as safety, equipment, transport, health and fitness. The course has really encouraged service users to listen carefully to instructions, writing in groups and brainstorming ideas together. After finishing the writing part of the course service users play football based games and improve skills and technique from the coaching staff. Other sports were also introduced to the service users such as the Paralympic sport of Boccia. The course has been successful with the service users, as it has achieved in being both informative and fun.

The course culminated in a trip to the Amex football stadium in Brighton. We were lucky enough to be taken on a special tour of the stadium, seeing behind the scenes of what goes on at a football club. The tour included the managers dugout, pitch, tunnel, dressing rooms, press area, boot room, boxes, private restaurant, trophy room, stands, shop and Dicks cafe. The clients were amazed by the shear size of the stadium and commented on the distance that they had walked. The tour was a real experience and a fantastic outing for both service users and staff.
