SUPPORTED LIVING

Supported Living

Apuldram Supported Living is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is because, as part of what we do, we carry out the ‘regulated activity’ of personal care. For this reason, under the Health and Social Care Act [2008], we must, by law, register with CQC. (Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our most recent CQC report).

Apuldram Supported Living currently provides support for up to 36 individuals with a learning disability, who live in Chichester, Bognor and the surrounding area. Our services are designed to enable people to maintain and develop their independent living skills. We offer a range of accommodation options, from shared housing with or without sleep-in cover, to self-contained accommodation. These properties are either directly owned by Apuldram, other social housing providers or private landlords. All individuals living in these properties are granted assured tenancies. We also support a number of individuals living in privately owned or rented accommodation, or who are tenants of the local authority.

We work with people to help them live the life they want. We encourage and support them to build their social networks and work towards personal goals such as learning to look after their home, volunteering or getting a job. We recognise that people with a learning disability may need support to help them achieve their goals.

We support people to maximise their choice and control over where, with whom and how they live by working with them to identify their strengths, abilities and preferences. We involve family and other key individuals and agencies in this where appropriate and with consent of  the individual.

We help individuals to set themselves goals and targets as part of their support plan and work with them to implement their plan.

Access to the service is ordinarily through local authority referral, with preference being given to individuals living within West Sussex. All referrals will need a Care Act Assessment from the local authority in order to determine eligibility and to identify specific support needs.

DAY CENTRE

Day Centre

The Day Centre provides a Monday to Friday service that enables working age adults with learning disabilities to take part in a wide range of occupationally focussed and enterprising activities.  We offer flexible placements under contract with West Sussex County Council or by private arrangement.  Attendees can access services  everyday or a few days per week, subject to availability and needs assessment.

We call attendees 'Trainees' as they have a choice of new skills they can learn with activities such as horticulture, life-skills, cookery, arts and crafts or social activities at our owned and semi-rural dedicated daycare centre.  In addition, we provide a pathway of support to progress from supported to independent community volunteering.

The Day Centre is a very relaxed and informal place where we try to let everyone be themselves whilst accepting that we each make a valuable contribution to the success of the centre.

Throughout the work orientated days we offer a range of enrichment activities including; sport, drama, music, fitness and community based projects, to name but a few….

The Day Centre is staffed by a dedicated and talented team of activity support workers who are supported by a wonderful array of volunteers, all working alongside our trainees to offer them the very best experience and care.
