The Kitchen

Look at the lovely scones we made!

Working in the kitchen, trainees learn cooking, domestic and life skills. They are taught to weigh and measure ingredients and complete a recipe accurately. They learn to prepare and chop fruit and vegetables and are taught the importance of keeping the kitchen and themselves safe, clean and hygienic.

Trainees’ kitchen duties involve using the tumble dryer to do laundry, disposing of rubbish, recycling and operating the dishwasher. Cakes and savouries are also prepared in the kitchen for visitors to the cafĂ© and sale in the shop.

At certain times of the year we prepare fruit and vegetables from our gardens for freezing.

Trainees have great pleasure in seeing their cakes, pastries, jams and chutneys sold in the shop. Apuldram is lucky to have a regular customer base, who have supported us over the years, so that we have been able to refurbish and update our equipment.
